We were looking to adopt a dog in the next few months and one just happened to fall into our laps last night.
Meet Layla, our new redtick coonhound! She was rescued (by 2 Paws Up Shelter Rescue) from a kill shelter a few counties over…two days before she was supposed to be euthanized. Lucky for us, she was living with a foster family in the next neighborhood over. She’s still on the skinny side and a little skittish (ok, she’s scared of a lot of things) but she’s very, very sweet and is getting along well with our dog Hank! I tried to get a picture of them together, but one or the other blinked in every single one. Maybe next time.
So here’s my pitch, there are hundreds and hundreds of dogs (cats, rabbits, etc.) out there just waiting to be adopted to good homes. If you’re in the market for a new pet, please check around for shelter and rescue animals first. You’ll be saving a life, doing something good for your community and getting love from someone who truly deserves it.
